Navagraha hmmm,

My mom is very into religeon so she used to take me to the temple with her. There was this one god( set of gods) dat intrigued me the most- the navagrahas, I asked a few preists abt the poojas done to PACIFY (that is what he said) them.

Navagraha shanti yagyas are pretty common and take place in many ceremonies like marriage, naming of the child etc. And one of the grahas they say is the MOON . The moon or the chandra bhagwaan features in the vedas and the Mundaka upanishad which cites the rituals to please him. Thereafter with the rise of Shankaracharya and the emergence of the satvika movement the moon god disappears from the scriptures written thereafter.

Strange that even after religeous philosophers like shankaracharya and Carvaka renounced these demi gods from Hinduism they still exist in our temples.

Guys its been 40 years since Man trampled the face of the moon, i think it is abt time that reasonable theists sit up and take notice. I know that some people would get hurt if we take off the idol from the temple or denounce Chandra's existence , but than were there not people who felt that their religeon was being targeted when SATI was abolished.

The moon is a beautiful spectacle at night, poets have sang ballad after ballad in its praise. If u are mesmerised by the moon go look at it in a planetarium , it is a beautiful sight. You need an observatory to fully appreciate the moon not a temple.

You do not have to be an atheist to follow this logic. So next time u sit in a grah pravesh or Marriage pooja and the preist says (utters actually in his monotonous tone) " Om shraam shreem shraum sah chandramasay namah" Sit up and take notice and think of why u are paying the preist?

- Everyone is an atheist of the majority of the gods that the humans made up: Zeus, Amon-Ra, Thor... Real atheists simply go few gods further.

The Holy Teapot

Mr X: do you believe in the holy teapot?
Mr Y: The teapot has helped me get over a lot of tough times in my life. The feeling that there was this figure looking over me and looking after me has made me strong enough to face the toughest of challenges. When I pray I feel my burden getting lighter and the reassurance I get from the thought that the teapot is there to protect me from harm keeps me at peace.
Mr X: I don’t agree with you I feel you are belittling the efforts put in by you when you attribute all your success to the teapot.
Mr Y : The teapot created everything on the earth, and is the one driving everything in the universe. It is now revolving in space from where it directs everything on earth. These truths of the teapot are revealed in the holy book. And for hundreds of years the teachings have been handed down from generation to generation. It is true.
Mr X : Humans believed the earth was flat for a thousand years, did people not realize that it was false, they will realize that the teapot is a lie soon. Faith tells us not to question and reason whereas modern science is dynamic and ever changing because of its ability to challenge itself at every stage.
Mr Y: When did I say that I don’t believe in science? I believe in the scientific method as well but it is undeniable that science has not disproved the existence of the teapot.
Mr X: We do not have the technology or telescopes sophisticated enough to search for the teapot. Even if we had such technology we cannot possibly look everywhere in the infinite universe. Just because we cannot disprove something does not mean it exists. There is a lot of things u can’t disprove.
Mr Y: What about the things modern science is yet to explain like origin of the universe, complexities of the mind? How do you explain that?
Mr X: Science could not explain many things before like the human body, atomic structure and all but now it can. I am sure Science could explain most things and nothing would be left unexplained. The Big Bang theory seeks to explain the origin of universe. The theory will develop in the future.
Mr Y: Even if Big Bang theory is true how did the universe originate. Surely someone created it, the universe just cannot come out of nowhere.
Mr X (chuckles): You urself claim that nothing can come into existence someone has to be create the universe. Now I ask if the creator created the universe then who created the creator. How can he just come out of nowhere.
Mr Y: That makes no sense u are arguing for argument sake.
Mr X: Yaar, I will explain using an example. It’s like someone saying that all fires are hot and there can be no cold fires, and someone counter arguing saying that there is a special fire that is cold. U said there has to be creator as someone has to create the universe. When I said that then who created the creator u say the creator is someone that needs not be created and is omnipresent. If the creator can exist without its creator why can’t the universe exist without the creator? So u see why I don’t believe in the creator. Let alone believing that the creator was the teapot.
Mr Y: Who cares if you believe in it or not. Almost 1 billion people or 20% of mankind believes in the holiness of the teapot. Surely all of them cannot be wrong.
Mr X: My point exactly what about the remaining 60% who don’t believe in Teapotism. What about spoonism, another major belief in the world, they don’t believe what you say.
Mr Y: I don’t believe in what they say either, the thought that the world was created when the sea was churned with a spoon and the drops that fell off the spoon formed the land is ridiculous.
Mr X: The spoonists may think that your theories are equally ludicrous. So I see u don’t believe much in other faiths, I am no different than you.

I just don’t believe in one more religion than you.

Aman Ki Asha

India Pakistan Peace,
These 3 words look strange next to each other.

but does this have to remain as status quo for ever. I know there are differences. Indians hate pakistanis because of terrorism, and they feel that we are out to get them. Media surely does up the rhetoric. watch a pakistani news channel sometimes (on the net as they are banned in India) and it will surely amuse you when u see them blame us for everything. Our media is not behind (god someone ban India TV) predicting pakistan as a failed state and terrorists running amock in the country.

Surely If an Indian and pakistani meet somewhere they would be courteous to each other. But would not hesitate to fling abuses at each other at a chatroom or some place else. Type "India Pakistan" on youtube and just read the comments on any video and u can surely learn all the swear words in Hindi-urdu.

So what is the problem here. Whenever an Indian thinks of a pakistani he always pictures a fanatic mulla promoting terrorists to slay the kafirs. A pakistani always thinks of an Indian as a Saffron clad rioter out to kill minorities. Simple answer 'It is the fear and Hatred of the unknown other.


Get over this stereotyping and realise that on either side of the border are people struggling to raise a family and meeting ends meet. Both want nothing but roti,kapda aur makan.

Tamil Eelam - the elusive dream

First things First I am not an LTTE sympathiser, But I am also not so detached and unawareof the situation to believe the lies being propogated by the SL govt. The govt is going all out into an all out phased decisive blow to the LTTE. Rajapakse claims that he is rescuing tamils from the LTTE. nothing could be further from the truth what he is doing is flushing out the LTTE regardless of the price. to qoute the RED cross 7000 people have been killed in the last month, going by even more conservative figures by the SL govt the number is 5000. There is more to be seen.
1. This figure does not include the number of young children who have been forcibly made to join the LTTE and have ben killed in battle.
2. This figure does not include those killed inside rebel held territory due to starvation or disease.

Sources point that in Reality more than 10000-12000 people have been killed. If this is a rescue operation then these people were better off in the hands of the LTTE.

SL govt has not allowed any foreign agency like the Red Cross to enter the conflict zone. What does Rajapakse have to Hide?????

Why has the SL goverment not heeded calls for a caesation of hostilites and an immediate ceasefire by the UN, USA, UK FRance, India and almost al countries with some respect for humanity( China has made no comments on this isssue)?

The answer being SL propaganda which labels any pro Tamil group in the world as LTTE sympathising. The western countries have enough of their worries( osama taliban.....). India on the hand has not acted because of the following reasons:--

1.Strategic Interest- SL is one of the very few friendly neighbours we have.

2. China. Indian govt feels if an intervention is made china may increase diplomatic and military aid to SL

3. International image-- Constant India bashing by Pakistan on alleged indian links to the LTTE has made the government turn a deaf ear to the issue.


For those who feel the sri lankan tamil cause is reaching its end bad news is it is not.

many of my friends do not know of the pre LTTE struggle. The whole issue started in 1956 with the introduction of the sinhala only act. The LTTE grew from underlying tamil sentiments but i do agree that it got way layed due to prabhakrans greed for poWER.


Unless the Sri Lankan Government mends its Sinhala Chauvinist ways and gaurantees equal rights and the dignity that my estranged brothers and sisters are due there is no end to the struggle.


People are asking for referendum so that they can decide whether they need Separate nation or not. But the Sri Lankan government is not accepting referendum and uses military to subjugate the Tamil people.

The word terrorist and freedom fighter are very close. Think of Yasser Arafat , He headed a declared terrorist group(PLO) and then Guess What! Got the Nobel peace prize for resolving the palestinian issue. Had Prabvhakaran done something similar he would have been one of the main contenders of the nobel prize instead of languishing in a jungle right now.

The LTTE may have been destroyed but the reasons for their rise still loom and unless these are resolved more groups will emerge and the dream of the Tamil Eelam with its sense of pride and hope will forever remain strong in the hearts of the Tamil People.

Climate Change/ Global warming --- who is to be blamed

Interesting thing that this climate change is up everywhere. from AL Gore to Amitabh Bachchan all are supporting it.

But do they actually know what they r doing.

1. the only major country to have not signed and ratified the kyoto protocol for climate change is the USA. the US is the worlds largest consumer of fossil fuels, largest polluter, has the largest number of cars and aircrafts in the world, largest importer of wood from the Rainforests.

2. The face which has become synonymous with this movement is AL Gore. he was also given the Nobel Peace Prize for this. Intersting he was the Vice President of USA when the US rejected KYOTO. Double Standards?

3. the US in fact blames Developing countries for this aggravation of climate change situation. They want the developing world to not use thermal power etc and spend money on renewable energy source.

4. why should the developing countries squander there money on these costly alternatives

5. finally CARBON CREDITS. money given for implementing green projects. Projects on which money spent could have set up thermal power plants which would have provided more electricity.SHOULD THIS MONEY NOT BE VIEWD AS A BRIBE GIVEN BY THE RICH NATIONS TO POOR NATIONS, SO THAT THESE NATIONS REMAIN POOR.

6. More ppl are effected every year due to lack of medical facilities, unemployment, education (requiring more energy resources and money) than of climate change or pollution

7. Finally it should be seen that the people of the THIRD WORLD DEVELOPING countries face an uncertain today, should they worry about the future.

8. y should the poor pay for what the rich nations do

all this climate control issue is useless unless the rich nations (especially the USA) do something in this direction.

I talk this opportunity to point out the differences in what the US says and What it does.

The ppl of india could all turn off their cars, shut down chemical plants, as a matter of fact have a zeo carbon footprint even then the climate change situation wouldnt even be slightly affected.

what is required at this juncture is to decide on the 2 following options

a) Pressurise the US to ratify the KYOTO protocol as a first step in a series of actual steps taken by it as a world leader.

b) Pressurise the Indian Government to break off from the treaty on climate change. ask the govenment to stop the spending on fighting this climate change and spend it on more pressing issues like poverty.

go on start the movement
the poor will not be eyewashed into beleiving that they r ruining the climate.

Let us join hands and condemn this bigotry followed by these countries.
We will not be fooled by them and will strive till these greedy Capitalists bite the dust
